Power assisted liposuction
Power assisted liposuction (PAL) in Scottsdale
A vibrating cannula loosens the fat before it is suctioned out, so Dr. G can shape each area with more control and less force.

Power assisted liposuction (PAL) is liposuction with a cannula that vibrates back and forth to break up fat, without heat, before suction removes it. It suits people near a stable weight with stubborn, often fibrous fat, such as the back, flanks or male chest. Cost depends on the areas treated; the liposuction packages list starting prices for the common area groups.
PAL is not a weight-loss method: it removes small pockets of pinchable fat that resist diet and exercise. The package price list sits on the liposuction page.

PAL next to traditional liposuction
| What differs | Power assisted (PAL) | Traditional suction (SAL) |
|---|---|---|
| How the fat is loosened | PAL:The cannula vibrates in short, rapid strokes and does part of the work. | SAL:The surgeon pushes the cannula back and forth by hand. |
| Dense, fibrous fat | PAL:The vibration separates it more readily, which helps on the upper back, flanks, male chest and areas treated before. | SAL:Harder to work through by force alone. |
| Time under anesthesia | PAL:Shorter, because the fat comes out faster. | SAL:Longer for the same areas. |
| Steadiness in larger cases | PAL:Less strain on the surgeon, so strokes stay even from the first area to the last. | SAL:Fatigue builds over a long case. |
| Where it fits best | PAL:Several areas in one session and detailed shaping. | SAL:Smaller areas or simple fat removal. |
What PAL will not do
PAL is one tool for shaping the body, and it has limits worth knowing before you decide.
It does not replace weight loss.
PAL removes pockets of fat. The best results come when you are already close to a weight you can keep.
It does not change the skin’s surface.
Cellulite and stretch marks stay as they are when the fat beneath them is removed.
It cannot make loose skin snap back.
Skin that is lax or marked with stretch marks can sag once the fat under it is gone. A Renuvion add-on is one way to tighten it.
It does not replace skill.
The device helps the work go smoothly. The shape you end up with depends on the doctor holding it.
Healing after a PAL procedure
What to expect
Swelling, bruising and soreness. PAL is still surgery, so plan for real downtime rather than a lunch-hour visit.
What you do
Wear the compression garment, keep to the activity limits and aftercare instructions, and hold your weight steady.
When the shape shows
At first the area can look more swollen than sculpted. Definition comes through gradually as the swelling settles.
Who PAL fits
Adults near a stable weight who want targeted fat reduction and a better shape. Good skin elasticity matters, so the skin can settle smoothly over the new contour.
PAL is often chosen for:
- Dense fat on the upper back, flanks or male chest
- Areas that were treated with liposuction before
- Contouring after pregnancy
- Refining the body after weight loss
- Several areas sculpted in one session
For a fuller male chest, the male breast reduction options start with finding the cause. For ultrasound-assisted fat removal, compare VASER liposuction.

I waited three months to write this review so I could see the full results of my leg procedure, and I can confidently say that Dr. G did an amazing job.
