The Lipo Doc, Scottsdale, Arizona

VASER liposuction uses ultrasound to turn fat cells to liquid, then removes them through a thin cannula with less disruption to nearby nerves, vessels and connective tissue. It is meant for healthy people at or near their goal weight whose fat has not moved with diet and exercise. You pay by the areas treated, and the liposuction package list gives starting figures.

VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. It works best on areas with larger volumes of fat, like the abdomen, thighs and back. The liposuction price list shows the packages.

Seven steps, from first visit to follow-up

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction is minimally invasive, but it is still surgery, with a set order from the first visit to the last check.
  1. Consultation

Dr. G talks through your goals, examines the areas and reviews your medical history, then tells you whether VASER is a good fit.

  2. Preparation

You receive pre-operative instructions on diet and medications, along with advice on arranging help at home after the procedure.

  3. Anesthesia

The anesthesia is chosen for the size of the area and on Dr. G’s recommendation. VASER is typically done under local anesthesia.

  4. Fat liquefaction

A wetting solution goes into the area first to cushion the tissue. The VASER probe then sends ultrasound into the fat, breaking the cell walls so the fat turns to liquid.

  5. Fat removal

Gentle suction through a cannula draws out the liquefied fat while leaving the surrounding structures in place.

  6. Recovery

You go home with instructions for managing discomfort and caring for the incisions. Compression garments are often advised to limit fluid buildup and inflammation.

  7. Follow-up visits

Scheduled checks in the following weeks confirm you are healing well and give you a time to ask questions.

VASER does not replace a balanced diet and regular exercise. A healthy routine after surgery is what keeps the result, and the effect of the procedure differs with body type, the area treated and the amount of fat removed.

Five things to weigh before VASER

Your health, age, habits, weight and expectations all shape whether VASER is right for you.

  • Health

Surgery calls for good overall health. Diabetes, heart disease or a weak immune system can raise the risk.

  • Age

There is no set age limit, but older skin is less elastic and heals more slowly, which can lengthen recovery.

  • Lifestyle

If you already eat well and stay active and still carry fat in certain spots, you may be a strong candidate.

  • Weight

Reach a weight close to your ideal first. VASER refines your shape; it is not a shortcut to losing pounds.

  • Expectations

Healing takes time, and so does the final contour. Patience through recovery is part of the plan.

What ultrasound adds

Precision
The energy targets fat cells and largely spares the tissue around them, which typically means less bruising than traditional liposuction.
Finer contouring
That control allows more detailed shaping of a specific area, such as the abdomen, thighs, arms, back, or chin and neck.
Some skin firming
The ultrasound energy may prompt collagen production, which can firm the skin a little where looseness is a concern.

VASER is a way of refining shape, not of losing weight. It can also be paired with power assisted liposuction (PAL), which loosens fat by vibration instead of ultrasound, and where loose skin is the main concern, Renuvion skin tightening can be added to a package.

I waited three months to write this review so I could see the full results of my leg procedure, and I can confidently say that Dr. G did an amazing job.

VASER liposuction questions

Who is a good candidate for VASER liposuction?
Someone in good health who is already at or near their goal weight and has stubborn fat in areas such as the abdomen, thighs or back. If you are still losing weight, the advice is to reach your goal first and then consider VASER.
How is VASER different from traditional liposuction?
Traditional liposuction breaks up fat mechanically with the cannula. VASER first liquefies the fat with ultrasound, so it comes out more easily, with less bruising and swelling and less trauma to nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue.
What anesthesia is used for VASER liposuction?
VASER is usually performed under local anesthesia, one reason it is considered less invasive than traditional liposuction. The final choice depends on the size of the treatment area and your doctor’s recommendation.
How long is recovery after VASER liposuction?
Many patients return to their regular activities a few days after the procedure, with mild to moderate discomfort. Following the aftercare instructions and keeping your follow-up visits help healing stay on track. Results vary from person to person.
Can the fat removed with VASER be used for fat grafting?
Yes. The fat removed can be used in a later fat grafting procedure if you want one, such as a Brazilian butt lift or a natural breast augmentation.
