A separate part of the practice

Regenerative care for pain and injuries is a separate service from body contouring at True Contour Medical.

  • Member of the American Board of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine.
  • Board certified by the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners.

Regenerative medicine at True Contour Medical uses your own stem cells, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), concentrated and injected where you have pain or an injury. Dr. G evaluates patients with arthritis, joint pain, muscle tears, ligament sprains, tendonitis and sports injuries. Results vary, are never guaranteed, and every treatment carries some risk. Dr. G sets your plan and price after the consultation.

A $200 consultation fee applies to every appointment with Dr. G. It is non-refundable and is credited in full toward any treatment or procedure you schedule.

Stem cells, PRP and PRF side by side

All three start with material from your own body. They differ in what is collected and how it is prepared.

Stem cell therapy

Made from
Your own stem cells, taken from bone marrow or fat. The practice focuses on autologous cells, meaning cells from your own body.
Preparation
A small sample is collected (for bone marrow, about 8 to 10 cc), then processed and concentrated.
Once injected
The concentrate is reinjected into the area being treated, such as a knee, shoulder, elbow or tendon.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma)

Made from
Your own blood, drawn at the visit.
Preparation
Spun at a higher speed in a centrifuge with an anticoagulant, leaving a liquid concentrate of platelets and growth factors.
Once injected
Releases its growth factors right after injection. PRP has the longer research history of the two platelet treatments.

PRF (platelet-rich fibrin)

Made from
Your own blood, drawn at the visit.
Preparation
Spun more slowly with no anticoagulant, leaving a thicker, gel-like concentrate.
Once injected
Forms a fibrin matrix that releases growth factors gradually, over about 7 to 10 days. PRF is the newer of the two.

Why Dr. G practices regenerative medicine

Dr. Armendariz served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. He has also dealt with a congenital heart defect, and he says those health challenges are what drew him to regenerative medicine. His hope is to one day live with a heart valve grown from his own stem cells.

Dr. Armendariz earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston Medical School, and completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Memorial Hermann Hospital System. Member of the American Board of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine.

He started True Contour to take a comprehensive approach to care, with treatments tailored to each patient’s needs.

  3. 3.Preparation

The sample is spun or processed to concentrate the platelets or cells.

  4. 4.Injection

The concentrate is injected into the area being treated.

  5. 5.Follow-up
