Four stages, from consultation to recovery
Consultation with Dr. G
You meet Dr. G, talk through the areas you want to change and what you want them to look like, and he examines those areas. He may measure skin and fat thickness with a caliper. He then tells you which treatment fits your body, whether that is liposuction alone or liposuction with fat transfer or skin tightening.
A $200 consultation fee applies to every appointment with Dr. G. It is non-refundable and is credited in full toward any treatment or procedure you schedule.

Preparation
Before the procedure you get pre-operative instructions, including dietary guidelines and the medications to avoid. You might need lab tests or a medical evaluation to make sure you are ready for surgery.
You and Dr. G also choose the anesthesia together, based on the procedure and your comfort level: local anesthesia with sedation, known as awake lipo, or general anesthesia.
The procedure day
Dr. G marks the treatment areas while you stand, so the plan matches your body upright. The team then cleans and sterilizes the area. A tumescent solution is injected to numb it, reduce bleeding and make fat removal easier. Dr. G makes small incisions and uses a cannula to break up and suction out the fat cells.
Many patients find the discomfort minimal. Some text or watch a movie during the procedure, and some fall asleep. Dr. G and his team stay with you the entire time.

Recovery at home
You go home with post-operative instructions for rest, food and fluids, showering, walking, your compression garment and lymphatic drainage massage. Swelling settles over the following weeks. If you follow the instructions, the practice expects you to see your full result in 3 to 6 months.
Recovery instructions after liposuction
- Rest
- Rest in a 45 degree inclined position for 4 to 6 hours, then keep resting for another 12 hours.
- Food and fluids
- Eat a good meal and stay hydrated.
- Showering
- After 24 hours, take a warm shower to help drain excess fluid. Keep showering as needed to help drainage.
- Walking
- Walk for at least 1 hour a day to help healing and reduce swelling.
- Compression garment
- Wear it 23 hours a day for the first 2 weeks, then 22 hours a day for the next 10 weeks. It helps healing and reduces swelling.
- Lymphatic drainage massage
- Attend 2 scheduled massages with the practice’s massage therapist in the first week. At home, gently massage the treated areas 3 times a day for 10 to 15 minutes each time, for the first 2 to 4 weeks.
Questions patients ask about liposuction
How much fat can be removed in lipo?
In Arizona, the most fat that can be removed in one liposuction procedure is 5 liters. How much Dr. G removes depends on your lab values and body size. If more fat needs to come out, it may take two or three more procedures.
How quickly can I see results?
It depends on the treatment and how many areas are treated. If you follow the post-surgery recommendations (fluids, lymphatic massage and compression), you should see the full result in 3 to 6 months. Everyone is different, so it may come sooner or take a little longer.
When can I shower after liposuction?
Usually the next morning. If you do not feel lightheaded after 24 hours, you can take a warm shower. It also helps drain fluid from the entry sites: use your hands to gently massage the fluid out.
Does liposuction hurt?
There is some discomfort. A high concentration of tumescent lidocaine solution numbs the treated areas, and oral sedation is given with it. Many patients find the discomfort minimal and stay on their phones or watch a movie, and some fall asleep. Dr. G and his team are with you the entire time.
What is HBOT after surgery?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is an add-on treatment some patients use after liposuction. Dr. G describes it as increasing blood flow, helping new blood vessels grow, supporting the immune system and decreasing swelling and inflammation. Ask him at your consultation whether it fits your recovery.
Can a keto diet affect my liposuction results?
Yes, it can. Dr. G usually recommends waiting 6 months before going back to a keto diet after liposuction or a fat transfer.
